Teaching-learning methodology based on soft skills for technical professional baccalaureate in machining and metal constructions at Simón Bolívar High School Fiscal School in 2024

Abstract

The professional technical baccalaureate in machining and metal constructions offered by the Simón Bolívar High School Fiscal School is aimed at students performing basic metalworking operations and processes by chip removal and welding, an education that includes preventive maintenance of machines and equipment. The objective of the degree is poorly met mainly due to the little agreement reached by parents, teachers and authorities, when authorizing the costs of the materials used in the additional practices of this specialty. This work focuses on a combination between the Project Based Learning (PBL) methodology with the methodology with a competency-based pedagogical approach, especially soft competencies where the common axis of the methodologies is the project management role, which It falls on the teacher who must develop them and transmit them to the students. With the objective of evaluating the effectiveness and its impact on the students' performance, a survey for students and an interview with two teachers are applied, in this way quantitative and qualitative data are collected that assess the perception of the effectiveness achieved in favor of teaching learning. In the statistical part, frequency analysis and the chi-square method are used to corroborate the hypothesis of academic performance in relation to this combination of PBL and learning based on soft skills. The population is first, second and third year high school students, as well as two teachers, with encouraging results. Finally, the proposal is presented with an application in the mesh of the specialty of this baccalaureate.
