UNDERSTANDING DEATH FROM COVID-19 IN INTENSIVE CARE UNITS: A VIEW FROM THE NURSING.

The general objective of this research is to understand the phenomenon of death from Covid-19: a vision from nursing. The aim is to discover the dimensions that are present in nursing thinking during the dying process of patients diagnosed with covid-19. Methodology: Hermeneutical phenomenological qualitative study where the selected method for the interpretation of the information was that of Spiegelberg. Findings: 1.- The nurse is aware that he is a mortal being, he is afraid of getting sick and dying. Hypoxemia nullifies consciousness producing a silent death despite extraordinary procedures, it is a phenomenon that becomes daily but has no explanation, causing impotence, pain and emotional weight. 2.- Death by covid is like any other that causes terror, fear. It is painful, it causes uncertainty due to its contagion capacity, the shortage of protective equipment and not knowing what happens next. Conclusions: death from Covid-19 is a phenomenon of great emotional impact, as it generates fear and uncertainty because we become aware of our own finitude, we perceive that we are mortal and therefore fragile in the face of this entity called SARS-CoV-2, which it has caused the death of millions of human beings. The death of the patient by Covid-19, does not differ from other deaths, it is a biological and cultural reality that we can describe. We know what happens just before it bursts into consciousness and everything vanishes. However, we only know the biological data immanent to the material body, we do not know what happens next because we know little about it.
