Abstract

Verbal expression in early childhood is fundamental to school learning; however, in rural contexts, limitations in vocabulary, fluency, auditory comprehension, and pragmatic skills can be observed, affecting classroom interaction and participation. Objective: To foster verbal expression through the implementation of neurodevelopmental stimulation strategies among 5-year-old children at the COMPUD Educational Unit (Chunchi, Chimborazo) during the 2024–2025 academic year. Methods: A study employing a mixed-methods approach and a single-group pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test measurements, complemented by data triangulation from school and family contexts. Eleven 5-year-old children participated; additionally, data were collected from 11 parents and 11 educators (assistant teachers, lead teachers, and specialists) using instruments administered in both classroom and home settings. The intervention lasted six weeks and comprised four sections of play-based, multisensory, and neurodidactic activities, consisting of 45-minute sessions within the school environment. Results: The pre-test revealed difficulties in interpersonal communication, lexical usage, and pragmatic skills (including eye contact), alongside a lack of systematic stimulation strategies in the classroom and inconsistent family involvement in supporting communication. Following the intervention, the post-test showed favorable descriptive changes in indicators of verbal production and communicative participation, as well as reports of more systematic classroom activities and increased communicative support at home. Conclusions: The pre-test and post-test results, complemented by school-family triangulation, suggest that the use of play-based, multisensory, and neurodidactic strategies can foster verbal expression in 5-year-old children and strengthen school-family support in rural contexts.
