Architecture of research management in Higher Education Institutions of Ecuador: preliminary assessment

Abstract
The current state of research management is one of the aspects that Ecuador should be aware of, especially in light of the need to fill the development gaps present in society. The objective set in this study was to describe the architecture of research in the Higher Education Institutions of Ecuador, with the purpose of assessing how research is
being organized in the HEIs, since they are the main actor for the task research and innovation of the country. The methodology was basedon basic, documentary, descriptive level research. Document analysis was used as a technique for collecting information, through the review of the information presented by the HEIs on their websites. The
instrument was an information systematization sheet where data on the organization of research and innovation in HEIs is evidenced. The analysis categories considered were: Human Talent dedicated to research, Research Groups, number of laboratories, promotion of research and innovation through calls for projects. The population under study were the Higher Education Institutions of Ecuador with published research data on their institutional websites. It is concluded that there are consolidated HEIs within research management, but also HEIs with evident weaknesses in the organization of research management.
