Rules for authors

Bolivarian Identity is a free scientific journal, which has as its principle the promotion of open access to information, therefore, it does not have processing costs or the sending of articles for the authors.

Formality: Articles submitted for evaluation by the publisher will be accepted and sent for peer review, as long as they respond to the thematic profile of the journal, the author tacitly accepts the conditions, norms and standards described in the journal.

Ethics: The article sent to the magazine will be unpublished and self-authored, it must not have been published previously, nor should it be in parallel evaluation in another magazine, the author is subject to international ethical standards of intellectual property, copyright and rights. related.

Length: The articles should contain between 5 to 20 pages depending on the type of article to be published, in this number of pages the parts that make up the manuscript are included, according to type, aspects considered as annexes must be included (equations, equipment descriptions, programs and surveys, development of theories, methods, etc.), the final results, the debates, the tables, the final conclusions and the usual references.

Format: the articles sent must be written in a column, with single space, line spacing 1.0, spacing between paragraphs, the same that must not exceed 8 lines, the subtitles and text must also be spaced, the size of the sheet will be A4 in Word, with a vertical and justified orientation, the margins will be the preset ones as normal, 2.5 cm top and bottom and 3 cm left and right.

The text will be in Arial 12 pts, the font will not be compressed without combinations of typeface, the title will be in Arial 14 pts in bold and capital letters, images, symbols, abbreviations are not accepted without having been written in full. the term is its first acronym, figures corresponding to models and others that explain the development of the article will be accepted.

In the articles, the tables and graphs must be sharp, clear and easy to interpret for the reader, they must be closely related to the exposed results, the use of colors in the graph must allow the differences exposed or results to be shown to be understood, the editorial board You can delete the tables and graphics that you consider not pertinent or that do not comply with the regulations, without prior notice to the author.

Language: In the articles sent, the correct use of the spelling and grammar rules must be guaranteed according to the updates of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language, the indiscriminate use of foreign words not registered by the RAE or terms in other languages ​​should be avoided. Articles may be submitted in English and Portuguese, which will be translated by the editorial committee to be published in Spanish.

Writing style. The articles received by the editorial board will be reviewed by a proofreader, the magazine reserves the right to make the pertinent changes to improve the reading and give it a higher level of precision, the author's idea, the semantic and conceptual essence will always be maintained that, as hypotext, underlies the article, in cases where the ideas are not clear, the author will be asked to clarify the relevant paragraphs despite the acceptance response by the scientific reviewer of the article.

Copyright: once the articles sent to the magazine have been received by the Editorial Board, the authors assign the publication rights until there is a negative verdict on the article, the author cannot send to another magazine, once the articles are approved for publication they will have to be cited from the magazine Identidad Bolivariana It is necessary, according to the Ecuadorian Institute of Intellectual Property, that the copyright has not been previously assigned to third parties.

First page: The submitted articles must contain on the first page, the article title, the abstract and the five Spanish keywords. Likewise, it is necessary to add the name of the authors and the institution to which each of them belongs with their own email address. In the case of the full name of the authors in the case of the names of Asian authors as long as the last name is at the beginning, you must mark it in bold. If the article is the result of a group or group of authors, it is recommended to point out on the first page to whom to direct the correspondence, if not the one that heads the hierarchical list of authors in descending order. Articles written by more than four authors will not be accepted.

Summary: it must not exceed 250 words, it must be an exact reflection of what is stated in the text. This should contemplate the following regulations: (1) state the objective and scope of the research carried out, (2) detail the methodology followed, (3) summarize the most relevant results and (4) state the most relevant conclusions. Abbreviations are not used in a summary and references are not cited, with very few exceptions, articles such as a letter to the editor or communications do not have a summary.

Keywords: a minimum of five keywords should be identified which will serve as a descriptor for a more efficient search by the readers, generally forming part of the title or the text summary.

Introduction: it is the preamble of the article, the author must provide the reader with the aspects that will be developed in the text and the scientific novelty

In turn, the premises on which the entire conceptual apparatus of research will rest and on which it will be exposed later must be established, a careful selection of the literature mentioned in this section must be made to achieve a significant impact in the development of the article.

Subtitles and subheadings: they will be located in the left margin with lowercase letters except for the first letter of the proper nouns in which, following the spelling rules, they will be in uppercase and bold, without any underlining and numbering. There will always be a space between the lines before and after each subtitle. Footnotes will not be allowed either as everything must be part of the body of text.

Formulas: the MS Word equation editor must be used. Formulas and mathematical expressions must appear with a double space above and below each of them. Embedded equations or formulas will not be accepted as images in the document. The formulas will be aligned to the left margin of the text column and will be numbered sequentially and in round brackets to the right end of the corresponding line. In case an equation cannot be reflected in line with the text, that is, at the same height as the line of text, then the necessary space should be given and numbered.

Of the figures and tables: the figures used by the author in his article must be numbered sequentially depending on the order in which they appear and must be accompanied by an image caption or text explained, for example: Fig. 1: Chronological scheme. All these figures must appear in such a way that they are perfectly editable. The same criteria apply to the tables only that they will be listed independently of the figures.

Tables and figures will be placed in the body of the text immediately after they are referenced; will not be accepted at the end of the document. This makes reading and understanding the text easier and more enjoyable. Likewise, the thickness of the lines in figures and tables must be similar to that of the font family that has been used throughout the text and must be the same throughout the text.

The explanatory legends of the vertical axis will appear centered to the size of the axis in a vertical arrangement from bottom to top and those of the horizontal axis will appear horizontally from left to right. Explanatory legends should appear in Arial with a height of 9 or 10 points. Your text should be clear, precise, and concise.

Conclusions: all the articles should have conclusions which will be presented directly and objectively with a clear language, and precise with a level of synthesis and concretion of the exposed ideas whose extension will be proportional with that of the general text in question.

Citations: The bibliography will be listed in alphabetical order by the last name of the first author and the year preserving the style of the APA version 6 standards, the editorial committee will make the changes it considers pertinent due to citation errors by type of bibliographic source, in the case that the citations are in a different form will be considered an article rejected prior to the appointment of the peer reviewer, so the author must guarantee this requirement prior to submission. The bibliography must contain the citations in the body of the text. Likewise, the publisher reserves the right to eliminate all those that it deems unnecessary until a reasonable number of them are reached in the article. The author tacitly accepts this when he submits his text to our journal for consideration.

Sending of texts: The full text of the documents must be sent through the journal portal once registered as an author, at  http://identidadbolivariana.itb.edu.ec/index.php/revista/user/register  a Once registered, you must upload the document according to the OJS requirements in .doc format. The Word file (.doc) must be saved in a format that allows editing and working of the text. The document must be sent as a single file. Tables, images or other parts of text in files can be uploaded independently as additional files. The Editorial Board reserves the right not to continue with the editorial work or respond when the articles submitted do not meet all the requirements set forth in these regulations.

Evaluation: the articles sent to our magazine for consideration go through two evaluation filters: one will be the editorial itself and the other by peer reviewers. First of all, the editor and the Editorial Board will make a first evaluative reading of the entire document in which an approach is made to it to verify that it meets the editorial profile and has the required quality, both conceptual and linguistic.

If the document passes the first editorial review filter, the first evaluative reading, then it will be sent for evaluation by specialized referees (peer review) who will evaluate other aspects in their reading that must also be taken into account: the novelty of the topic, the correct use of the orthographic rules and of the writing norms, syntactic and expository clarity, accurate establishment and use of all the conceptual section and the contribution made to the study science to which it belongs.

In the event that the text does not pass the first reading evaluation, the authors will be immediately informed; therefore, it will be considered that it has never entered the evaluation process, that is, it will not be considered rejected.

In case the text meets the required quality and is accepted for editorial work with a view to future publication, but peer review recommends making corrections, whether to the general structure of the article, the documentation, the rewriting of any paragraph, or whatever it may be, the authors will be informed immediately to make the appropriate adjustments. Thus, once the entire document has been arranged, the authors are obliged to send a completely corrected version to our journal again, which will be sent again for peer evaluation.

Types of articles accepted in the magazine:

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: these are investigations related to the areas of interest of the magazine, they must occupy up to 10 pages, without counting the main page and bibliographic references.

They will have the following structure:

Title: up to 15 words.

They admit up to 3 authors, are numbered in Arabic numerals and are placed according to their participation in the investigative process. Their credits contain academic and scientific titles, institution and email of each one.

Structured abstract of up to 250 words, must contain: foundation, objective, methods, results and conclusions.

Keywords: up to 5.

Introduction: it must occupy one and a half page approximately, in it the scientific problem raised in the academic reality that justifies the importance of carrying out the study must be addressed. It ends with the objective of the investigation. The citations and bibliographic references begin.

Methods: contains type of research, period and place where it is carried out, the universe, the sample and its inclusion criteria; the theoretical, empirical and mathematical methods used; It includes criteria for the selection of specialists and the indicators used for evaluating the product, if any.

Results: They are offered in the same order in which the methods appear.

Discussion of the results: it expresses the novelty and relevance of the study, and must clearly define the authors' criteria regarding its results. It contains the largest number of citations and bibliographic references, in order to compare the results found with those of other researchers on the same topic.

Conclusions: they are written in paragraph form, and should not repeat what has already been mentioned in the results.

Bibliographic references: they must have between 10 and up to 15 bibliographic references, limited by the APA version 6 style, with an 80% update of the last five years, for magazines, and 10 years if they are books or brochures. Sites that are not scientifically refereed should not be referenced, for example: monographs, Wikipedia, EcuRed, etc.

Tables and figures: they collect information in a summarized and efficient way. They allow information to be displayed with the desired level of detail and precision. The inclusion of these data reduces the length of the article, since information contained in them should not be repeated in the text.

A maximum of two figures and three tables is allowed, or the combination of this amount to complete a number of five. Their appearance must be mentioned within the text. The tables are consecutively numbered with Arabic numerals and are headed with their title, below is the source from which the data is obtained, and the legend, if necessary; decimal numbers must be separated by commas and not periods. In the case of the figures, they are titled at the bottom and must be elaborated and photographed with quality, or sent digital reproductions of photographic quality. They must be sent or delivered in the corresponding electronic files in a format that allows the reproduction of high-quality images in the electronic version of the magazine (for example, JPEG or GIF). Authors should check these images on the computer and verify that they meet the necessary quality requirements.

REVIEW ARTICLE: this is a single text consisting of between 15 and 20 pages, not counting the presentation page and the bibliographic references. Supports up to 3 authors.

It is structured in an informal summary, up to 250 words, which must contain the fundamentals of the introduction, development and conclusions.

Keywords: up to 5.

In the introduction the theme and objective of the review are presented, the development is divided into subtitles in which the authors' ideas are critically exposed, expressing their own criteria emanating from their practical experience. It should never be a simple transcription of the reviewed bibliography. The conclusions synthesize the essential aspects of the review, they are generally contained in each of the sections or subtitles, although the author can summarize his essential ideas at the end of the article.

The number of bibliographic references, limited by the APA version 6 style, should be between 20 and 25 with an update of 90% in the last five years, for magazines and 10 years in the case of books or brochures.

COMMUNICATION: are the results of research that synthetically express topics of interest on a particular scientific topic, with novel aspects that reflect the author's point of view. Up to 3 authors will be accepted. Its maximum length will be between five and six pages. The text, although unique, must be written in a logical order that refers to the aspects that motivated its presentation, the essential elements of the state of the art on the subject, and reflect the criteria and experiences of their authors.

Its bibliographic references, between 5 and 10, delimited by the APA version 6 style, will have an 80% update of the last five years for magazines and ten years for books or brochures.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR. It is addressed directly to the editor. The title can be written in the form of an interrogation or in a traditional way. . It is an option for the quick disclosure of any finding of a controversial nature; encourages scientific debate, so you can express ideas in agreement or disagreement with aspects contained in articles published earlier in this magazine, on: concepts, methodologies, interpretations, results, to name a few. It can also reflect the characteristics of some useful product for this community. It must refer from the beginning to the fact that motivates it, be it the article that appeared in the magazine or another cause, and follow a progressive logical expositional scheme.

Letters allow ideas and opinions to be exchanged between magazine authors and readers, and can be a trigger for correspondence exchange. It must be accompanied by up to 5 keywords. A maximum of three authors are allowed. Its length is five pages maximum. It must have 6 to 10 bibliographic references, limited by the APA version 6 style with an 80% update of the last five years for magazines and 10 for books and brochures.

Shipment Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to indicate that their submission meets all of the following elements, and to accept that submissions that do not meet these guidelines may be returned to the author.

  1. The petition has not been previously published, nor has it been submitted to another journal (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the editor).
  2. The submitted file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect format.
  3. Web addresses have been added for references where possible.
  4. The text has simple line spacing; the font size is 12 points; italics is used instead of underlining (except URLs); and all the illustrations, figures and tables are inside the text in the right place and not at the end of the whole.
  5. The text complies with the bibliographic and style requirements indicated in the Rules for authors, which can be found in About the journal.
