DIGITAL PRESERVATION POLICIES
The Bolivarian Identity magazine bases its digital preservation policy on the guidelines established by the LOCKSS system (PKP PN) for OJS, this allows to create a file distributed among the participating libraries, allowing these libraries to create permanent archives of the magazine for preservation purposes and restoration. However, for version OJS 3.0 it is under development. Therefore, the magazine is awaiting its update and advances actions to belong to the Open Access Global Network LOCKSS.
Thus, the content of the electronic documents is ensured, for the periods of time established in the Law of Archives of Ecuador and the corresponding Regulations of the Superior Technological Institute of Bolivarian Technology; providing protected information of: integrity, inalterability and originality.
In this sense, the following measures are established to achieve digital backup and preservation:
Keep copies of the journals published on the third day of going online, on corresponding DVDs, stored annually in the ITB library; creating a copy on the mobile external disk that the editor of the magazine has, where a daily save of the number that is worked is made.
In both cases, data integrity control mechanisms are used when making copies, using redundancy algorithms that verify that the data is maintained as recorded.
In this sense, the Bolivarian Identity magazine conditions the digital integrity since, on the one hand, it has been diagnosed the possible causes of defects in the digital information or loss of data such as: management and negligence errors, technical and mechanical failures, errors of the operator, virus, unauthorized and undocumented changes, obsolescence or incompatibility of software, loss of programs, incomplete metadata, aging of information.
On the other hand, it has developed a digital preservation strategy that integrates the following procedures:
Storage of digital resources with great care, without reference to external documentation.
System, data or documentation dependencies are minimized.
The LOCKSS digital preservation system (http://www.lockss.org/) from Stanford University is used. In its version for OJS
This offers digital preservation services, in open source, with the aim of providing and permanently preserving access to the digital content generated through our publication. In addition, it allows you to share digital content securely among participating libraries.
• The information is converted to new formats. It is a measure against obsolescence.
• A process for recovering information from damaged, fragmented or archaic data sources is applied.
• Information is stored in formats that are widely used today.
In summary, the Bolivarian Identity magazine performs systematic preservation actions, such as: data rejuvenation, consistency checks, migration, emulation, technology preservation and digital archeology.
